As we head into week three of live shows on The X Factor, boss and tweaker of puppet strings of the show Simon Cowell has revealed which song the winner of the show will release as their debut single. And it’s bound to divide opinion.
Forever Young, by Bob Dylan, has been chosen as the show’s swan song and will no doubt will be a contender for this year’s Christmas Number One. The song, released by in 1974, is a tender track about Dylan’s experience of becoming a father. Whether or not the X Factor winner can ‘make it their own’ remains to be seen. Nevertheless, it is a nice enough choice, if not a little ‘beige’.
Forever Young has been in contention to be released by previous winners and runner-up Jahmene Douglas, who came second to Middlesbrough’s James Arthur in 2012, actually recorded a version for his debut album album Love Never Fails. His take has shades of Alexandra Burke’s winning song Hallelujah, so 2015’s wannabe victor: take note.
