Sit back, relax and…actually, stand up and get ready to do the Time Warp because The Rocky Horror Picture Show is about to start playing in Sunderland. The city’s Empire theatre will play host to Richard O’Brien’s rock and roll musical, which is in its 40th year of performances.
The Rocky Horror Show tells the story of Brad and his fiancée Janet, two squeaky clean college kids who meet Dr Frank ‘n’ Furter by chance when their car breaks down outside his house whilst on their way to visit a college professor. It is an adventure they’ll never forget, with fun, frolics, frocks and frivolity, bursting with timeless songs and outrageous outfits.
Starring X Factor pop tart Diana Vickers as Janet, ex-Emmerdale actor Ben Freeman as Brad, former S Clubber Paul Cattermole as Eddie / Dr Scott and Kristian Lavercombe back as Riff Raff, the show is packed with outrageous humour, timeless songs and the sexiest costumes on stage.
It’s infamous score boats classics including Science Fiction/Double Feature, Sweet Transvestite, Dammit Janet and of course, the floor filler we all dance to after a gin or four, The Time Warp.
Audiences are encourage to dress up as their favourite characters – which here, means sharpening those stilettos, slipping on your fishnets and finding your inner Sweet Transvestite.
Go on, you know you want to.
