If you’re looking for this year’s summer anthem, then look no further. Former Disney star and purity-ring-wearing Christian brother Joe Jonas’ new outfit DNCE are young, good-looking and have created a funky pop powerhouse in the form of Cake By The Ocean. And it’s not about food.
“Working on the record, these Swedish producers that we were working with kept confusing ‘sex on the beach’ with ‘cake by the ocean,'” Jonas told MTV. “Then, it became this kind of lyrically wacky song, and it kind of embodies the band.” Hmm.
The band, made up of Jonas, Jack Lawless, Cole Whittle and JinJoo Lee, released the song last year as part of the EP SWAAY, but it has recently started to gain momentum. It’s a punchy little number that reminds us of Foster The People’s Pumped Up Kicks and sounds like it would go perfectly with a bottle of sol and a game of volleyball, never mind a slice of black forest gateau. With an upcoming support slot on Selena Gomez’s tour, 2016 could be DNCE’s year.
